One of the most common questions we hear from our members who are considering growing conventional corn is "what are farmers applying on their fields to protect their conventional corn crop?"
It's important to remember that conventional corn is any corn seed that has no foreign input traits added to the seed through genetic modification. What does this mean? Herbicides containing glyphosate and glufosinate should not be sprayed over the top of conventional corn, but nearly all other corn herbicides can be used on conventional corn.

The most difficult-to-control weeds in any type of corn production are kochia, common waterhemp and marestail, but these weeds have demonstrated resistance to one or more groups of herbicides. This multiple group resistance can make developing an effective herbicide program for corn more difficult.
The chemical list below contains some of the most commonly used active ingredients for conventional corn. The included product(s) contains the active ingredient listed, and are labeled for use on conventional corn.
Always start with a clean seedbed—the best way to control weeds is not allowing them to emerge by using and overlapping residual herbicides.
